History and Education

Dr. Seth Alley was born in Austin, Texas, in 1976. Spending time on the numerous rivers and lakes in Central Texas, Dr. Alley formed a strong appreciation for nature and the connection between a healthy, sporting lifestyle and improved function of the body. This connection plays a pivotal role in his chiropractic practice, as he encourages patients to seek better health through conscious choices in diet and activity that will enhance the body's performance and longevity.

Graduating from Davidson College in 1999 with High Honors degrees in Spanish and Pre-Medical Studies, Dr. Alley moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to seek outdoor adventures on a grand scale. Between hiking, snowboarding, kayaking, and fly fishing, Dr. Alley divided his professional time between his business as an on-call medical translator for Hispanic patients in the valley, and his volunteering with the Teton County EMS team as a medic.

In 2002, Dr. Alley decided to further his career in healthcare by attending Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon. Having been successfully treated by a chiropractic physician after a severe wakeboarding injury while in college, Dr. Alley had been spared surgical and narcotic treatments in favor of natural, conservative healing methods. This experience was a turning point for him, as he realized that his goal in life was to one day be able to provide the same life-altering, life-saving treatments for his patients. For Dr. Alley, there is no higher calling than to allow a patient the opportunity to regain his or her mobility and return to the activities of a healthy lifestyle, pain-free and trained to prevent similar injuries in the future.

Dr. Alley graduated Magna Cum Laude and Valedictorian from Western States in 2006, receiving the prestigious Clinical Excellence Award for outstanding patient care in the school's clinic setting. He has performed internships in Portland, Oregon; Beverly Hills, California; Austin, Texas; and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Preferring the relaxed and natural setting of Portland, he returned to the city in 2007 to establish his private practice at Sylvan Chiropractic Clinic and Wellness Center.
Dr. Alley also works beyond his clinic as a guest lecturer for NeuroScience, Inc., and has testified as an expert witness in legal cases. Dr. Alley also enjoys volunteering as a treating physician for Oregon Ballet Theater, the Northwest Professional Dance Project, and the Portland Ballet. In his free time, he enjoys running in the numerous parks in Portland, swimming, golf, tennis, and hiking in the incredible forests  of Oregon. Starting this fall, Dr. Alley is excited to also be working with the Rose City Rollers, Portland's Women's Roller Derby league, as the team doctor for the Guns 'n' Rollers!

Clinical Philosophy

"As Clinic Director, I approach patient care from a holistic standpoint, preferring to view the body as an integrated system. The complex structure of our bodies must be treated and maintained on multiple levels, rather than addressing symptoms individually. I feel that as your physician, my responsibility lies in diagnosing your condition accurately, creating a comprehensive treatment plan which addresses both the cause of the problem and its resolution, and then training you in ways to manage your health to prevent further injury in the future."
