Thank you for taking your time to learn more about me as a physician and a person. As a chiropractic patient myself, I firmly believe that knowing and trusting your physician creates a more positive environment for care that ultimately leads to better health for the patient. The first step in forming that relationship comes with knowing your doctor's life, both educational and personal.

I originally hail from the Lone Star State, having been born and raised in Austin. Spending time on the numerous rivers and lakes in Central Texas, I formed a strong appreciation for nature and the connection between a healthy, sporting lifestyle and improved function of the body. This connection plays a pivotal role in my chiropractic practice, as I encourage patients to seek better health through conscious choices in diet and activity that will enhance the body's performance and longevity.

Graduating from Davidson College in 1999 with High Honors degrees in Spanish and Pre-Medical Studies, I moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to seek outdoor adventures on a grand scale. Between hiking, snowboarding, kayaking, and fly fishing, I divided my professional time between my business as an on-call medical translator for Hispanic patients in the valley, and my volunteering with the Teton County EMS team as a medic.

In 2002, I decided to further my career in healthcare by attending Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon. Having been successfully treated by a chiropractic physician after a severe wakeboarding injury while in college, I had been spared surgical and narcotic treatments in favor of natural, conservative healing methods. This experience was a turning point for me, as I realized that my goal in life was to one day be able to provide the same life-altering, life-saving treatments for my patients. For me, there is no higher calling than to allow a patient the opportunity to regain his or her mobility and return to the activities of a healthy lifestyle, pain-free and trained to prevent similar injuries in the future.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude and Valedictorian from Western States in 2006, receiving the prestigious Clinical Excellence Award for outstanding patient care in the school's clinic setting. I have performed internships in Portland, Oregon; Beverly Hills, California; Austin, Texas; and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Preferring the relaxed and natural setting of Portland, I returned to the Rose City in 2007 to establish my private practice at Sylvan Chiropractic Clinic and Wellness Center.

Clinical Philosophy

As the owner and clinic director of Sylvan Chiropractic Clinic and Wellness Center, I approach patient care from a holistic standpoint, preferring to view the body as an integrated system. The complex structure of our bodies must be treated and maintained on multiple levels, rather than addressing symptoms individually. I feel that as your physician, my responsibility lies in diagnosing your condition accurately, creating a comprehensive treatment plan which addresses both the cause of the problem and its resolution, and then training you in ways to manage your health to prevent further injury in the future.

Professional Activities Beyond the Clinic

My clinical interests and professional activities sometimes allow me the chance to work beyond my clinic in many ways. I am honored and proud to have been recognized as one of Portland Monthly's Top Docs for 2014 (the first year in which alternative medicine providers have been ranked by the magazine).

I serve as a guest lecturer for NeuroScience, Inc. and have testified as an expert witness in numerous legal cases. I have also participated with Dr. Oz's 15-Minute Physicals as a consulting physician for patients at Oregon Health and Science University.

I always welcome the opportunity to work within my community to treat patients, promote good health, and address injury prevention while serving organizations that are important to me. I enjoy bringing my clinical knowledge and expertise to my role as a treating physician for Oregon Ballet Theater, the Northwest Professional Dance Project, and the Portland BalletI am also extremely proud to treat the members of Guns 'n' Rollers, part of  Portland's Rose City Rollers Women's Roller Derby League. Finally, I have recently been asked to work as the private chiropractic physician for Dan McLaughlin of The Dan Plan as he trains to qualify for the PGA Tour.
